Police General Headquarters (PGHG) officer in charge of boards has been hauled before the courts on allegations of soliciting for a bribe from his subordinate after promising her that he would transfer her.

Takawira Sigireta, 44, is answering to criminal abuse of office charges before Harare magistrate Aniah Ndiraya.

He is being charged together with his subordinate Sibongile Nyadundu who is facing bribery charges after she allegedly gave Sigireta $125 so that she could be transferred to the traffic department.

According to prosecutor Progress Maringamoyo, Sigireta’s duties included convening boards of inquiry, suitability, dissertation and trial of police officers.

Court heard that sometime last year, Sigireta approached Nyadundu who was stationed in Mashonaland East province as ICT administrator.

He allegedly convinced Nyadundu that he was capable of transferring her to the traffic section.

It is alleged that he went on to solicit for $125 so that he could facilitate her transfer.

On September 28 last year, Tapiwa Munamato, Nyadundu’s husband, made a swift transfer of $75 into Sigireta’s bank account.

Court heard the following day he made an EcoCash transfer of $50 to Sigireta.

However Sigireta failed to facilitate the transfer prompting Munamato to report the case at Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.

The case was reported leading to Sigireta’s arrest.

The duo will be back in court on October 16 for their trial.
