Atqnews.com has released the list of nominees for the Africa Travel 100 Women with the President of Liberia, Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, topping the list of honourees in the leaders’ category. The list has over six categories which include hospitality, tours, aviation, travel trade conservation, travel trade administration, travel trade tours, travel trade media and tourism.
The debutant award by Atqnews.com is aimed at honouring and recognising African women who have tremendously impacted on the continent through their various contributions in the travel and tourism trade under the labels of: The pioneers; the leaders; and the stars.
The nominees who were voted by the general public across Africa and vetted by a committee set up by Atqnews. com, will be formally honoured at the 13th edition of Akwaaba African Travel Market, a travel and tourism trade exhibition and conference, which is to be held at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos between September 10 – 12. Others that made the list under the leaders’ category include Ghana Minister of Tourism, Catherine Afeku, South Africa Minister of Tourism, Tokozilie Xasa and Zimbabwe Deputy Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Anastancia Ndlovu. Others are: Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, Mrs. Nike Davies Okundaye and Mrs. Fatima Garbati. In the tourism category are Mrs. Rita Ikechi-Uko, who is the co-founder of Akwaaba African Travel Market, Stella Obinwa and Waturi Wa Matu. Nneka Isaac-Moses of Goge Africa made the travel trade media list while Angela Andrews Njie and Chiamaka Obuekwe are on the travel trade tours category.
Evelyn Mahlaba of South Africa Tourism and Safia Ali of Uganda Tourism Board are in the travel trade administration category while in the aviation category are Duduzile Cynthia Myeni, Chairman South African Airways, Captain Irene Koki Mutungi, Kenya Airways, Mrs. Ify Megwa of CPU Nigeria Civil Aviation Agency, Captain (Mrs.) Chinyere Kalu and Siza Mzimela, Founder, Fly Blue Crane.
In the tour category are such names as Uloma Egbuna of Tours Brokers International, Charity Githinji of Tandaza, Tanzania, Olanma Ojukwu of God’s Own Travel Agency, Benin Republic and Nancy Sam Quartey of Staple Travel and Tours, Accra, Ghana. Ubongabasi Nseobot, sales and marketing manager of Southern Sun Ikoyi, was listed in the hospitality category.
